I really enjoy gummy cherries. I can't explain why I like them, I just think it's a fruit flavour that works very well with gummies, particularly sour gummies. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that cherries have a pretty powerful flavour in the real world, and so do most (including these) gummy cherries. I also think that cherries are known for both their sour and sweet flavours, and these have both a sour and sweet flavour. Cherries in gummy form just kind of works.
In my mind when I think of sour gummy cherries, Maynards is the brand that I'm thinking about. It's a bit of an unfair advantage since I grew up on these, so they set the standard in my childhood. The thing is, I can't really think of a time that I've had a better sour gummy cherry later in life. I've tried a few random gummy cherries in some bulk stores (that I can only assume aren't Maynards) and I generally didn't like them as much.
The only things I don't really understand about this candy is why they use the word "blaster" in the name. I don't really find this flavour to be explosively sour or anything. It's not a weak sour flavour, but it also doesn't really explode in your mouth. It a nice strongish sour with a sweet cherry aftertaste. While I'm sure the "blaster" part is a gimmick, I think it's an unnecessary gimmick because these are just fine as sour cherry gummies, with no "blast" required.
