Are you tired of eating your fruit the old fashioned way, either in fruit form (often round) and/or as a jam? Why not try fruit in a cube form instead. This treat is a little sketchy to say the least. I bought it from a cart in downtown Delhi, in a market right across the street from the train station. The hygiene at this cart was not what I would call spectacular, there was a cow just hanging out a few feet away, but I figured that it might be fun to try something "local".
As it turns out, it was a lot more fun than I expected. I expected the worst but was genuinely surprised. I won't say it's the best candy I've ever eaten, but it's not bad. The best way to describe it would be to say that it's a cross between mango jam and a gummy. It's sort of like a gummy that tastes like a real, but overly sweetened mango.
The faults of this treat are many, but simple enough to fix. First of all, it's way too sweet, adding sugar to mango is just not necessary. Second, the texture could use a little work, less slimy/sticky to the touch, and a slightly firmer texture would do wonders. Finally, a shape improvement would make this treat much more appealing to bite into. It doesn't have to be mango shaped, but something better than a cube would be nice. These are all simple tweaks that would make this treat, into a superstar candy.
The other mystery of this treat is why the cast from Winnie the Pooh is on the package, but I'll let that slide (here's hoping the lawyers at Disney will too). It's not a bad treat, but with a few adjustments it could be better.
