Long Gummy "UHA"

UHA Mikakuto

I feel like this treat combines two gimmicks in one. The first is the fact that it’s a very long gummy candy, according to the package and the ruler on the back a 40cm long gummy. While I’m certain this isn’t the longest gummy in the world, it’s still pretty long. The second gimmick about this treat is the flavour, UHA. UHA is a milk based product that’s very popular in Japan and other parts of Asia. It’s commonly found in tiny little bottles and has an almost fruity flavour to it. I think it might be some kind of yogourt drink, but honestly I’m not so sure. What I do know is that while you could easily call both of these gimmicks, they’re gimmicks that actually make this candy a little more interesting.

The flavour is probably the most interesting part for me. You don’t often find gummies flavoured like popular milk based beverages that aren’t chocolate. Even gummies shaped like cows or milkshakes (both of which I’ve had) are more often than not fruit flavoured. While the UHA has a fruity flavour, it’s also a little creamy. I guess the other good thing about how this tastes is the fact that it’s pretty close to the original UHA flavour.

The other fascinating thing is the fact that this gummy is really long. It’s also really thin, so you’re not actually getting a ridiculous amount of gummy. It’s flat long shape is actually kind of fun to eat. I decided to eat this one in one go, and it was both challenging and fun. They could have easily gone with shaping this gummy like a bottle of UHA, but the longer shape was pretty fun to eat, so I’m not going to object that much. I’ve seen other gummies from Japan in this same long format, and I think I might give them a try too.

This is a fascinating gummy candy for sure, but I feel like you might lose something if you’re not familiar with the UHA drink. My suggestion would be to give that a try before you attempt this gummy, or the sweet fruity flavour might throw you off a bit. As for the shape, why not pick up two and challenge your friend to a gummy eating contest.
