Chupa Chups Tubes Mini

Perfetti Van Melle

This package has a lot of weird words written to try and describe this candy, so it makes you wonder how complicated a candy this might be. I think the best way to analyze these is to take each word from the package and see how it might fit into the treat. The biggest and more prominent word on the package is tubes, and I would say that this word describes this treat very well. They are a bunch of tiny, colourful tubes, I’ll get into the filling in a minute.

The next largest word is “sour” and these are in fact sour. I wouldn’t call them the most sour candy I’ve ever tasted in my life, but they have a nice sour kick that goes well with the fruity flavour (I’ll get to that in a little while too). After that the next most prominent word is “mini. I would describe these as fairly small, but I’m not sure if I would call them mini. The only reason they might be mini is if there was a version of these tubes that was longer. I’m not sure if Perfetti Van Melle makes a larger version of this treat, but with the word mini I would assume so.

Now we’ll get into the most obscure words and descriptions on this package. “Fizz Fizz” is kind of confusing. I guess some people find sour powder to give them a slight fizzy feeling in their mouth, but I really wouldn’t describe these as fizzy at all. After that we have the words “center filling”. While I would say there is a filling in these, I think you can use a better way to describe these than “center”. White, chewy, maybe even slightly creamy might be a better description, but honestly the filling doesn’t really add much to these beyond making the gummies tubes, since I would assume you need something in the centre of something to call it a tube (air counts as something).

Soft and Chewy are written in really small letters on the bottom, which is strange because these are both soft and chewy. It’s a fine way to describe these and should probably be in a bigger font and not resting on top of the weight. Finally “fruit flavour gummy candies” is another small print description that actually describes these fairly well. The flavours aren’t super realistic, but they fall into that recognizable fake fruit flavour that I’m okay with. I did find that the scent of the apple candies did cover up the scent of the other flavours, but once I bit into them it other flavours came through.

These are tasty enough, but I feel like the many words on the package are trying too hard to make this simple treat more than it is. The white filling is a bit of a mystery, it’s almost like a chewy icing, but I don’t think it adds much to the candy beyond being a filling and maybe adding a little more sugar. The biggest fault of these would be the sour apple flavour, mostly because I’m not a huge fan of sour apple, but also because the flavour seems to have spread over the entire package.
