Big Foot "Sour Blue Raspberry"

Allan

In general I liked these blue gummy feet. I’ve been a fan of blue raspberry since I was a little kid going to my local ice rink where they used to sell blue raspberry slushies. It was the coveted flavour of slushy at my local rink, and they would often run out, so it was always an extra thrill when I would get one. While I’m aware that there’s really no such thing as a blue raspberry, and the flavour doesn’t really taste like any kind of raspberry, I do like this fun fake flavour.

I also enjoyed the sourness of these gummy feet. I was worried that they would be some kind of extreme sour candy, but they’re not. The sour is a nice subtle sour flavour that has a slight kick, but you don’t find yourself begging for mercy after the third or fourth gummy. All in all I found this gummy experience to be very pleasant.

This is all to say that there’s one part about this candy that I don’t really understand. Well actually there are two parts, but the first I’m willing to just ignore. The part I’m willing to ignore is the fact that they’re feet. Maybe at one point gummy feet made sense, but at this point I don’t really get it. I know that they’re based on the classic red gummy feet that have been around since the 80s, and that’s where my second problem comes in.

While these seem to be an update of the classic red gummy feet, they’re nothing like them at all. The texture and I think even the size is completely different. Obviously the flavour and the fact that they’re sour is different too, but at least that’s advertised. When I got these I thought I was getting a copy of the red gummy feet, only sour and with a new flavour, these are so different in texture that it feels like it’s another candy company stealing a theme and just making it slightly different.

I don’t really know where gummy feet came from, and I don’t understand why they changed these particular gummy feet so much from the classic red variety. I do know that I did like the flavour and the texture is fine even though it’s different than the original.
