The most important thing is that this smells and tastes a lot like passion fruit. The package indicates that these are passion fruit flavoured and that you can peel away the outer layer of gummy to reveal something that kind of looks like passion fruit. I’ll talk more about the functionality of this candy later, but for now I’ll say that if you want a gummy that tastes like passion fruit, then this is the treat for you. It even actually tastes kind of like real passion fruit, and that’s rare in the candy world.
As for the functionality of this candy, that’s a little more complicated. The package suggests that you can peel away the purple gummy layer to reveal an orange/yellow centre with black seeds. I tried several times to peel away the purple layer with no luck. One problem is these gummies are kind of small, the bigger problem is that the centre is a gooey substance that’s also very sticky. Strangely that actually makes the substance in the centre more like a real passion fruit, but it also makes it almost impossible to peel.
The seeds were also slightly mysterious. I believe they may have had some crunch to them, but they were so small that it was hard to bite into them. They also seemed to disappear quickly (maybe dissolve) so I had a hard time getting a good crunch. I appreciate the idea of having to the seeds to keep in theme, but they were very mysterious.
This is probably the best passion fruit gummy I’ve ever had, it might also be my first. It did set a high bar for any passion fruit gummies to follow, even though the peeling factor didn’t really work as well as the package suggests.
