Biscoff cookies are really going through a popularity explosion right now. I’m not really sure why, because they’ve been around for a really long time. I don’t think of Biscoff cookies as a new thing, to me they’re a classic. For some reason I can’t explain I’m starting to see these cookies pop up in so many places. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not upset about this, in fact I’m kind of a fan of these cookies. It’s just a little weird for me because I feel like it’s a cookie that should be considered an old fashioned classic and not something new and exciting. It would be like someone telling me that scotch mints are the next big thing.
While I enjoy the idea of Biscoff cookies being everywhere, I will warn candy makers out there that it’s not an easy ingredient to get right. This bar is a perfect example, because honestly I feel like Cadbury hasn’t really given this cookie its due. Flavour wise I can’t say I tasted any Biscoff at all. The milk chocolate pretty much covered everything up.
Texture wise there is a pretty good crunch in each bite, but even in this case I wish there was more. The best way I could explain the imbalance of this bar is to say that I feel like it would have been better if it’s was made by Lotus (the company that makes Biscoff cookies) instead of being made by Cadbury. The reason I say this is I think Cadbury pushed their chocolate over the cookie. The better way to make this treat is to take a whole cookie and cover it in Cadbury chocolate. Between the Cadbury chocolate and Biscoff cookie, the cookie is a much more subtle flavour, so for it to work there has to be much more cookie.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a fine chocolate bar. The crunch although weaker than I would like was fine. The chocolate is the high quality you’d expect from Cadbury. Every element is great, but I just feel like it could have used a lot more cookie.
