I’m not sure exactly what is going on with this bar, or more to the point the chocolate in this bar. I’ve scoured the package and it keeps repeating “peanut milk chocolate”. My initial thought when I see these words is that there will be milk chocolate with peanuts in it. This is not even close to what you have here. First of all there does not appear to be any milk chocolate in these squares at all. The texture is more like a dry halva or even a dry maple sugar. It’s like a compresses square of powder that melts in your mouth.
The flavour is more peanut than chocolate, in fact if the word chocolate wasn’t on this package it wouldn’t be missed. The milk in the description totally baffles me, I can’t taste anything milky at all. It basically tastes like a really dry peanut butter that’s been smushed into a cube. The milk and chocolate might be ingredients in this treat, but in both cases the flavour or texture are not really present. Eating this bar was a really strange experience, even if you take away the fact that I was expecting a square of milk chocolate with peanuts.
The next question for me however is if I liked this bar. The answer is also very complicated. I wouldn’t say that I hate this bar, in fact I ate two of them in one sitting and would have eaten more if I had more. I’m not sure I would buy a box of these, but in a weird way I kind of enjoyed these. I did have to re-adjust myself a little once I realized that these wouldn’t be milk chocolate squares with peanuts. They are creative, but I’m not sure if they’re great. I enjoyed eating them, but I don’t think they’ll ever be a favourite. In some ways I feel deceived, but maybe it was just my own bias of expectation.
