I have some issues with this snack, and it starts with the description on the package. One of the most important pieces of information about this snack is hidden in the small print under the name of this snack. Just below the word “pretzels” the package describes these as “pretzel sticks covered in chocolate”. While I can’t say that the folks at Jack ‘n Jill lied about what’s in the bag, they kind of imply that you’re getting full twisty pretzels by the name.
The snack itself is okay, but it’s not great. Two flaws really bring down the quality of these pretzel sticks, the chocolate quality and salt quantity. These are not an expensive snack, so I guess I can’t expect super high quality chocolate. It’s not that I’m surprised by the lack of quality, but it might have been a nice surprise to get a slightly better chocolate than expected. The salt problem is actually the total lack of salt. Pretzels covered in chocolate are one of the original sweet and savoury treats out there, but when you omit the salt it’s kind of lost. These still have the nice crunch from the pretzels, they just lack the flavour.
I also had two other issues with these that I’m not sure how to think about. The package is probably a little less politically correct than you might be comfortable with. I’m willing to let that slide as maybe it’s a cultural thing. The other oddity of this snack is that I got all full chocolate pretzel sticks except one half. In other words, one of my pretzels was broken, and I only had the one half. It by no means ruined my experience, but it did make me wonder where the other half had gone.
