This chocolate is a simple, yet fairly high quality milk chocolate with a very particular design feature. If you’re to simply look at the ingredients this is just a fairly high quality mass produced milk chocolate. Taste and texture wise it also fits into that category. If you’re looking to enjoy a really nice piece of milk chocolate plain and simple, than this box of Lindt squares is perfect, except for one fascinating design choice.
The thing that makes these unique is in the name, or at least I hope I’ve translated it properly. The word “extra fin”, which I assume means extra fine, is really the thing that makes this chocolate interesting. This box contains many squares of chocolate that are extremely thin. I feel like you’d be measuring the thickness of these squares in millimetres and probably only one or two. The real question is does making your squares of chocolate so thin improve the chocolate or take away from the chocolate.
I believe there are both pros and cons. The cons come from the fact that the squares kind of stick together and can be a little difficult to take apart. I broke a few squares just trying to separate them, so aesthetically it was a little complicated. On occasion I also like to add extra things to my milk chocolate, like peanut butter, and with these it’s virtually impossible. Dipping these or adding anything else to these squares ruins the structural integrity and always leads to broken squares.
The pros of this chocolate are the fact that a small box can last you a long time. You can eat five or six chocolate squares and you’ve barely eaten the amount of chocolate in your average small candy bar. The thinness also allows the chocolate to melt in your mouth so easily. They don’t last long, but they melt so quickly that it’s almost a challenge to get a bite in before they disappear.
I would most certainly recommend you give these chocolates a try, but before you buy them it’s important to know the limitations. They feel more fancy than many milk chocolates, but there are a few logistical issues that come with being so thin as well. As decorations they might fall apart in certain circumstances, even handling them causes breakage. The feeling you get when they melt in your mouth however is something very unique and very nice.
