Today I decided to not only do a review but to set something straight. Here goes, there are four colours of wrappers (that I know of) for the "Tootsie Pop"; orange, brown, red, and blue. The flavours are simple, orange is orange, brown is chocolate, red is cherry, and... wait a minute, why is the blue grape flavoured? What's the deal, why don't they make it a purple wrapper. There are rules in the candy world and the Tootsie people have decided to ignore them.
Colour aside, the "Tootsie Pop" is what you might call a 'classic'. It's been around for as long as I can remember and interestingly enough you don't really see it imitated too often, and I can see why. Tootsie roll stuff, that's the chocolate in the middle, is a remarkable substance, it's like toffee but with its own identity. It’s got a great dense chewy texture and a really nice chocolate flavour. Although the pop or candy part of this treat is simple, the ratio of candy to chewy chocolate center is really great. It's strange, you wouldn’t really think that chocolate toffee and a lollipop would work together, but it appears they do.
I’m pretty sure that the Tootsie Roll came out before the Tootsie Pop, so that means at one point some brilliant candy maker thought up this classic amalgamation. These are really two candies that no one could have ever thought would work, yet here we are eating this classic candy.
Oops... I forgot about the Dark Red Raspberry flavour, thanks to all those who pointed it out.
Suck Time: About 12 minutes till I reached the core, and that lasted for about 5 more minutes. Although I still can't tell you how many licks it took.
