Thortons "Viennese Truffle"

Thortons

This is my first ever Thorntons treat. I thought I should share that because I understand that Thorntons is a fairly popular brand in the UK, and I wanted to let you know where I stand before I write anything about this chocolate. This comment comes from the fact that one particular aspect of this bar completely baffles me. This bar has a coating of sugar on the top of it. I'm not sure if this is something common in Thorntons chocolates or if it is specific to this particular bar.

What I'm getting at is I find this coating of sugar to be rather strange and completely useless to this bar. The bar itself is spectacular, the chocolate is a superior quality and the truffle center is one of the creamiest I've ever had in my entire life. There is nothing about this bar that tells me that corners were cut, it is a very high quality bar.

I just can't get over the sugar coating on the outside. It adds nothing to the look or flavour of the bar, except maybe a confusion factor to those out of the know. I'm thinking if you wanted to coat this bar with something granular and clear, a dash of sea salt would have added a really interesting flavour that I feel would have worked. The layer of sugar is just a little bit weird.
I can't complain about this bar at all, as you'll see by the numbers below, it's a very good bar, I just don't get the sugar coating.
