There are two elements to this candy bar, milk chocolate and hazelnuts. One of these elements was really great and the other was not great at all. When you have a bar with only two ingredients it’s pretty crucial that both are good, so it was a little sad to have such and imbalance. The success of this bar is the hazelnuts, they were tasty and very crunchy. I’ve had a few hazelnut chocolate bars where the hazelnuts are disappointing, but these were fantastic.
The disappointing part of this bar was the chocolate. It lacked any real cocoa flavour, and had a really waxy texture. It melted in my mouth, but not the way a good quality milk chocolate bar should. It’s really disappointing because this was a really great bar for every other part. Not only were the hazelnuts tasty, but the ratio of chocolate to hazelnuts was spot on. I feel like with a higher quality chocolate this bar would have been a delicious treat.
My guess is that the lower quality chocolate is not a mistake. This bar comes from South East Asia where temperatures are much hotter and prices for candy is often lower. By going with a cheaper chocolate you can store the bar in hot climates and keep the costs down. It’s really a double win for the company who made these and a common occurrence in this area. High quality chocolate bars just don’t work in many warmer countries.
If you’re travelling in a warm climate and craving some less expensive chocolate (higher quality chocolate imports can be very expensive in some parts of the world), this is a fine bar to deal with that quick chocolate fix. The hazelnuts are the main star anyways and fortunately they’re very good.
