Starbar

Cadbury

I don’t really know much about this history of the Starbar. The history of this bar can answer two of the questions I have about this bar. The first question is how long has this bar been on the market. I’ve travelled to the UK many times in my life, but for some reason I don’t really remember the Starbar. I assume it’s been around for a while and I just haven’t noticed it before, but maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s newer than many of the other Cadbury bars.

How new this bar is also plays into the other question I have about this bar, is it just a copy of a Wunderbar? It’s totally possible that the Starbar is much older than the Wunderbar, and I just happened to have tasted the Wunderbar first. It’s also possible, and even likely that you, the person reading this don’t know about one or both of these candy bars, which means you might be a little confused about this dilemma I’m having. All I’ll say is that both the Starbar and the Wunderbar are very similar candy bars, and I know for a fact that the Wunderbar has been around for a long time (as I said before, the Starbar I’m not sure).

The fact that both of these bars are so similar begs the question, which of these bars was the first to introduce a chocolate covered, caramel and peanut butter log with crispy bits mixed in. It’s really a remarkable collection of great flavours that always go well together. Both of these bars also managed to balance out the ingredients so well that not one part dominates. All of these great (yet fairly standard) candy bar ingredients blend into something better than the sum of its parts. It’s a very nice candy bar that on paper should always work, and in this cases does really well.

In the past on this site I’ve accused candy bars of being knockoffs of other candy bars. My bias is always on the treat I’d tasted first. The fact that Cadbury makes both the Wunderbar and the Starbar tells me that there’s a much deeper story going on here. The good news for any of you candy lovers out there is if you’re a fan of either bar, you’ll most certainly enjoy the other.
