I have to say that I'm really impressed with these Reese Hazelnut Crème Cups. I've had a few Reese cups in my time and almost all of them have had peanut butter in them, in fact wait a minute let me check the old reviews... Yup this is a first for Reese as far as I know, this is the first time they went with something other than peanut butter, and good for them. It’s nice to see a candy company take a classic treat and step out of their safe zone.
Sure, the format for these chocolate filled cups is a little old, but it does work. The cup filled with some kind of nut butter great for sharing, and fun to eat. This time though you’re not getting something layered in or mixed with peanut butter, this time you get a nice smooth hazelnut spread instead. This hazelnut butter also really tasty too, and perfectly balanced with the milk chocolate. I'd go so far as to say that the hazelnut wouldn't work without the chocolate and the chocolate wouldn't work without the hazel nut. These Reese “Hazelnut Crème” Cups kind of taste like Nutella if you need some kind of flavour reference.
I'm normally not a big fan of variation treats (those are treats that just slightly altar a classic treat) because they're not really that creative or more importantly not really that great, but this might be an exception. I have to say that I recommend trying one out, and even hope they stick around for a while.
