Peeps "Chocolate Mousse Marshmallow Cats"

Just Born

I just looked back though some of my past reviews and I just realised that I’ve never actually reviewed Peeps before. I wrote them into a few articles (back before the blog) but this will in fact be my first Peeps review so far. It’s a good thing that this is my first review, because my opinion of Peeps isn’t really that high. It stems from the fact that I’m not a big fan of marshmallows. Don’t get me wrong, toasted with chocolate and between a few gram crackers is one of the best snacks ever. It’s just alone there’s something really dull about the flavour and texture of marshmallows.

The good thing about Peeps, and in particular these Peeps, is that they add a few things to boring old marshmallows to give them a little flavour and to a lesser extent a little texture. In this case the flavour is chocolate, and it’s not that bad. Saying that it’s “chocolate mousse” is a good touch because with the fluffy texture that’s just what I was thinking. The fact that I can bite the head off a cat is both gratifying and twisted, but since it’s a Halloween treat, I can see the point.

I’m still not sold on the whole marshmallow thing, but these are a vast improvement. I wonder if these would be even better if I toasted them, put them next to a piece of chocolate, and squished it all between two gram crackers?
