I don’t love peanut butter. I don’t hate it by any means, however I feel like there are a large group of people in the world who believe that peanut butter is the greatest spread in the world. I know people who would take peanut butter over chocolate and that just sounds crazy to me. Having said that, I feel like peanut butter is very unrepresented in the cookie world. Off the top of my head I can only think of two peanut butter store bought cookies. One is made in Canada and known as Pirate Cookies, and then there’s these Nutter Butters from the USA.
Of the two cookies, Nutter Butters are the least complicated. What you get is a simple peanut butter flavoured cookie with a smooth peanut butter cream in the centre. The cookie has a really nice snap to it, and the peanut flavour isn’t too powerful, but it’s certainly pleasant enough. There really are no surprises to this cookie good or bad. It could have been much worse, but it could also be improved as well.
If you’re wondering how it could be improved, look no further than the Canadian Pirate cookie. There are a few elements to the Pirate cookie that edge out the Nutter Butter, and the focus is the cookie. The Pirate cookie has what I believe is an oatmeal based cookie with peanut butter. There’s something about the texture and flavour of this cookie that just goes so well with a peanut butter cream. I also feel like the flavour of a Pirate cookie is a little more peanut butter forward, which is good if you’re one of those peanut butter lovers.
I don’t mean to use this review to compare Nutter Butters to Pirate cookies. I just feel like the Nutter Butter could be a better cookie. It’s totally fine, but it’s not amazing. I would happily eat another Nutter Butter, but I don’t feel like I would seek them out or buy them regularly. I also feel like those of you who are true peanut butter fanatics might have better options.
