L’Authentic Petit Ourson Guimauve

Cemoi

The most entertaining thing about this candy is grimly pictured on the package, they’re really satisfying to smush and pull apart. What makes the package a little dark is the fact that it’s a cute little bear tearing apart a cute little chocolate covered marshmallow bear. I can’t tell you how fun it is to destroy this candy, I actually spent some time thinking and executing (no pun intended) different ways to destroy these little bears. While having a candy that’s fun to play with is great, the eventual question is how does it taste.

Surprisingly these are actually pretty good. It’s important to note that I’m very picky about marshmallows. I really only enjoy marshmallows that are either toasted or on some occasions marshmallows that are hand crafted. In most situations mass produced marshmallows don’t really do it for me. The two issues I have are that most mass produced marshmallows are bland and I also find their spongy texture to be too synthetic (like eating air filled rubber).

The marshmallows inside these bears could still fit that description for me, flavourless and a weird texture, but the chocolate coating does a lot to cover that up. The chocolate they use is decent quality and the flavour fortunately dominates over the marshmallow. The chocolate also covers up some of the weird texture as well, when you first bite down it’s a little crunchy, but the chocolate melts quickly and makes the marshmallow a little creamy.

This is truly a disturbing, yet entertaining treat to eat. It might also be one of my favourite mass produced marshmallow treats ever. It’s by no means perfect (it’s worth noting that they look a little rough as well), but it’s pretty good for a marshmallow. As an additional note I thought I should mention these are a little delicate and may be a challenge to transport.
