Tartufi Di Cioccolato

La Suissa

This is what a chocolate truffle should look like. In my time as the Candy Critic I have eaten a lot of chocolates that call themselves "truffles". I still don't really understand the connection between truffles the chocolate and truffles the mushroom, but I digress. When I see a chocolate truffle that looks ultra modern, slick, and even colourful, I get a little nervous. I worry that the chocolate maker has spent more time designing the look of the chocolate over the contents and flavour. Not that all pretty chocolates have been disappointing, but I have come across a few. These truffles look like little mounds of chocolate, misshapen and covered in cocoa powder.

I can't say that there's anything amazingly different or spectacular about these chocolates, but they're pretty good. Simple milk chocolate with what I assume is hazelnut bits mixed in, then covered in that cocoa powder. For those chocolate snobs out there, you might find these a little too sweet for your liking. I on the other hand love sweet mixed into my chocolate, so I found these to be positively delightful.

I don't think I could say that these were the most creative chocolate treat I've ever eaten, in fact they're not creative at all. They did however take a classic chocolate and make it the way it's supposed to be made. It's fancy in that the ingredients seem to be of a high quality, but they're not pretty at all. It's a fine box of chocolates, made to look the way a fine chocolate should.
