I’ve been thinking a lot about Kit Kat bars, and the differences between the way they’re made and the way they taste all over the world. It came to me while eating this particular Kit Kat bar that another factor might come into play. I once heard that Nestle makes constant adjustments to the Kit Kat recipe. The goal is to improve the bar as much as possible, while keeping the price of the bar reasonable. I’ve always believed that the recipes are adjusted for regions as well, to adapt to palettes of the various people eating them, as well as the conditions where they’re sold. This second belief is why I’ve chosen to review basic milk chocolate Kit Kat bars from all over the world. The problem I have is that I haven’t reviewed these bars at exactly the same time.
What I’m saying is I’m not sure if the differences between this bar and the many other milk chocolate Kit Kat bars I’ve reviewed in the past are because of regional differences or part of the evolution of the bar. The thing I noticed about this bar is that the wafers, and thus the fingers seem a little more narrow than other Kit Kat bars I’ve eaten. I don’t actually have another Kit Kat bar from someplace else in front of me to compare, they just seem a little more narrow. This narrowness doesn’t really affect the chocolate to wafer ratio too much, so it’s still a great bar, I just feel like it’s a little smaller.
Speaking of chocolate, the quality of the chocolate in this bar from the UAE is very good. I would rank it among the higher quality chocolate Kit Kat bars that I’ve ever eaten. It was also a melted mess, which makes this choice odd as it’s a bar that’s sold in a warm climate. Many candy companies have to make the choice between adding fillers into their chocolate to keep it from melting, but sacrificing the quality of the chocolate in the process. Nestle in the UAE has decided that it’s more important to have quality, even though the higher quality melts easier in hotter climates.
I can’t prove that the wafers are smaller, but I can state that this is a fine Kit Kat bar. The chocolate is above average and melts very easily. I guess if you’re in the UAE (or any of the other Middle Easter countries where they sell this bar), you might want to consider eating this bar in an air conditioned environment.
