Chocolate Pie

JJ’s Bakery

I feel like this is the first time I’ve ever seen one of these “pies” with a chocolate filling. I believe that the most common filling for this sort of pie is fruity, maybe a lemon or cherry filling. I also seem to remember that most of the time the filling of these pies has a pretty powerful punch. I’ve tasted a few of these fruit pies in my life, sometimes they’re okay, sometimes they’re not. Most of the time my feelings about this pie has to do with the quality and quantity of filling.

This chocolate pie is kind of unique to its fruity counterparts. Actually, the pie itself is almost identical to other pies in this category that I’ve tasted. While they do taste fairly manufactured, there’s something tasty about them. It could be the sweet glaze, or it could be the thickness of the crunchy pie shell. As is with many of these pies, this shell is the highlight of this dessert.

While the pie was great, the problems I have with this pie are focused on the filling. What makes this pie unique from the fruity pies is that the filling was plentiful, but the flavour was really weak. I would say that each and every bite of this pie’s edges had little to no chocolate flavour at all. There were a few centre bites that were drastically filling heavy that had a bit of a chocolate taste. On the package it has the word “chocolate” in large letters, and the word “pie” in small letters. Based on the flavour of this pie I would switch that around.

There’s no doubt that his pie could have been much better. The chocolate filling was weak at best, nonexistent most of the time. The pie crust was exactly what I expected, and it made me happy. I really wish that the chocolate was more powerful, maybe not explosively powerful like many of the other pies out there, but a little more flavour would have made this the perfect treat.
