Jelly Belly just seems to have a grasp on the concept of flavours. I’m continuously astounded at how well this company delivers when it comes to flavours. It’s not that they fail at texture and novelty, it’s just that their flavours seem to always hit the target every time. This can be for better or for worse as Jelly Belly is known to have some very strange and disgusting flavours too. The thing is they always deliver what they promise, and this is no exception at all.
Jelly Belly could have easily decided that a chocolate and cherry flavoured candy could have been a simple bag of their chocolate and cherry jelly beans. While that wouldn’t have impressed me much, I wouldn’t be disappointed either. Instead however, they decided that it would be a better idea to dip their cherry jelly beans in real chocolate, but that’s not all. Obviously someone at Jelly Belly is doing their homework and they realized that the flavour of their Very Cherry jelly beans are very rich and they would pair much better with a dark chocolate.
The flavour combination is pretty much perfect in flavour choice and ratio of ingredients. No one flavour dominates, and you have two flavours combined into something unique. The only fault I would say is the quality of the chocolate which could have been a little better. I assume they went for a slighter lower quality chocolate to keep the beans from sticking together, so I guess it’s kind of excusable.
I feel like this could have been a pretty average treat, but it’s not. It’s a clever concept that feels as though some thought had gone into it. I’ve only ever seen one version of these dipped Jelly Bellies, but I’d be curious to try more.
