These almonds are very well represented by the art on the package, confusing, weird, but it kind of makes sense once you think about it. When you first bite into these almonds you get a creamy flavour, similar to a cream cheese icing. Honestly it’s not what I was expecting. I thought the main flavour would be the many spices you often find in a carrot cake, but you have to be a little patient with these almonds. That carrot cake spice flavour eventually comes around after a few chews of the almond. It’s really clever because it gives you the many layers of flavour similar to what you get with a good carrot cake.
As you continue to chew, more flavours seem to emerge. Coconut is probably the most obvious of these emerging flavours, but I’m also very certain that these have a slight raisin and carrot flavour too. It’s amazing because the flavours seem to build on each other, so it really tastes like you’ve just eaten a piece of carrot cake. While the texture is a little strange when you compare it to carrot cake, the flavour is very close.
The fact that they coloured these orange is a little confusing, but I feel like they’ve really delivered the best almond candy/carrot cake hybrid possible. I feel like one of the best examples of how well it works comes from the fact that Allison didn’t really like them. The reason was that each time she bit into one she could “taste the raisins” (she hates raisins). The fact that the flavour matched so perfectly in such a small detailed part of a carrot cake is proof that they’re pretty spot on.
I guess how much you actually enjoy these depends greatly on your opinions about carrot cake. Since carrot cake is easily in my top 5 of cakes, I enjoyed these a great deal.
