The highlight of this treat is the cookies. The other elements serve purposes, but not really for taste and texture. The cream in the centre is so thin that I feel like its only purpose is to glue the two cookies together. It adds nothing to the texture and almost nothing to the flavour. The chocolate on the outside serves a purpose, and that’s making these cookies sticky and hard to eat. The layer of chocolate is so thin that it barely adds anything to this cookie, beyond covering my fingers when I tried to eat them. I did taste a faint chocolate flavour while eating these, but I can’t really tell if it’s coming from the cream or the chocolate coating. In either case the chocolate aspect of this treat is very weak indeed.
The good news is that although I would have preferred a little more chocolate, the cookies were still pretty tasty. They had a great flavour and texture and would have probably been more enjoyable on their own over being lightly coated with mediocre chocolate. I feel that if these cookies had of been covered with a heavier layer of milk chocolate or even a similar layer of dark chocolate, the cookie would have balanced really well with the chocolate. A little more cream would have also been nice. In fact, I think a thicker layer of vanilla cream with a nice layer of dark chocolate would have been really nice. The creamy vanilla cream would have balanced out the bitter dark chocolate, and the buttery crunchy cookie would have given everything a nice texture as well.
These were fine cookies, but all the other elements really could have been improved. I feel that the cookies alone would have received a higher score than the way these are currently presented. One would think making a cookie treat like this would be simple, but bad ratios and low quality ingredients can really ruin something so simple. These chocolate covered cookies make me feel more disappointed at what could have been with just a little more thought and consideration.
