Peko Poko Stick Chocolate

Fujiya

There’s a lot to say and possibly try to explain about this treat. Unfortunately a great deal of what I need to say and try and explain has almost nothing to do with candy, or in this case specifically chocolate. If I was to subtract all of the gimmicks associated with this candy, you’d end up with two small heads made of average to below average chocolate. The candy parts of this treat look pretty fun, but the quality and enjoy-ability of this chocolate isn’t that amazing.

I’m not sure I expected anything great candy wise from this treat. I’ll admit that I was taken with the package, the look of the chocolate and the general theme of these chocolates. The package not only has some kind of fun Asian cute character theme, but there also seems to be some kind of tie in with basketball. The chocolates themselves look pretty cool, but the sticks they’re on also have depictions of each character as well. Even more so each depiction of the characters is different. They even took the care to make sure that each stick only has depictions of the character represented in chocolate attached to that stick. There were so many places where this candy could have go wrong from a design perspective, but they truly didn’t.

The problem however is they kind of landed flat with the actual part of this treat that you eat. It’s not that I hated the chocolate, I would just call it average to below average. I would not suggest anyone buy these for the quality of the chocolate by any means. If you happen to be fans of these characters, and you like a detailed candy package design, then these are really the candy for you.
