Candy Critic http://www.candycritic.org Bitting off more than we can chew! en-us Candy Critic http://www.candycritic.org/rsspic.jpg http://www.candycritic.org 110 71 Caramilk Deluxe http://www.bewarethecheese.com/caramilkdeluxe.htm It takes s whole lot of nerve to add something like the word "deluxe to your treat. I mean deluxe implies that your treat is already good but this version is so much better. It's also not your standard "new and improved" label. Deluxe implies that it's a little classier too. It's not that I want to build this treat up before I even try it but what can I say with a name like this. Chai Tea Truffle http://www.bewarethecheese.com/chai%20chocolate.htm I'm always a little indecisive when it comes to spiced creamy things. These are basically just that. I find the flavour intriguing but kind of disgusting. I like to try them but I can't ever picture eating a whole bunch of them. Pop Drops http://www.bewarethecheese.com/popdrops.htm Since each package comes chock full of many flavours I've decided to let fate decide which I shall review today. So with the flip of a wrist we learn that I'm reviewing... Red. I can't say that I was cheering for red because that would show favouritism and this site has nothing to do with things like that. But I have to admit I'm pretty happy with the choice. I was most nervous about getting blue because I've already reviewed the blue Tootsie Pop and I imagine these will taste pretty much the same. Utz Potato Chips http://www.bewarethecheese.com/utz.htm So what made me pick up this bag of chips? Was it the creep girl on the package? Was it the cool fact that they don't spell the name of the company with any upper case letters? Nope, it was simply the fact that here at candy critic (thought I'd try no capitols too) we have not one reviewed treat that starts with the letter U. I've been looking for a while too, so just seeing these made me smile. Red Vines 'Original Red Twists' http://www.bewarethecheese.com/redvinesregular.htm This isn't the first time in my life eating Red Vines. A while back I was sent a box of them and was given the option of what flavour I'd most like to sample for the review. I chose cherry because I thought that the regular ones would just be... well regular. I did it because I didn't want to compare Red Vines to the fine folks at Twizzler. It's not very exciting and to be honest I wasn't really sure who came up with red liquorice first so I didn't want to judge. Well I just got another box full of liquorice cheer from the folks at Red Vines, and I was stuck with the same problem. I decided this time, since they're so tenacious that I'd give their "Original Red Twists" a try. Kisses 'Coconut Creme' http://www.bewarethecheese.com/kissescoconut.htm I can't say I'm really looking forward to this particular review. Well I'm not really sure if I am. Let me explain. I love coconut cream pies, it's one of the only ways I like coconut. For some reason that tasty cool cream really puts a smile on my face. The thing I'm not really sure about is if they could possibly fit all the great things about coconut cream pies into a Hershey's Kiss. I'm more of the opinion that these are going to be like Mounds bars, basically just coconut covered in chocolate. Mars Caramel http://www.bewarethecheese.com/marscaramel.htm This is a really interesting twist. Most of the time when I eat a "New" candy bar that is in fact just a variation on an old one they add something to it like orange flavour or a new kind of chocolate. This time the folks at Mars decided to take something out instead. That's kind of clever in my opinion. The true question is does it work? L'il Scoops http://www.bewarethecheese.com/lilscoops.htm Before I even start on this review I must comment on the brilliant, and useful, packaging. The little spoons and little egg cartoon have about a hundred uses outside of holding and eating little chocolate eggs. For example, it you ever plan on a short trip and you want to pack your own hard-boiled eggs, you need not worry about transportation or utensils. It's really brilliant if you think about it, just don't think too hard. Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares 'Dark chocolate with Raspberry' http://www.bewarethecheese.com/ghirardelliraspberry.htm I'm really happy with Ghirardelli's choice to use dark chocolate with Raspberry. Mostly because raspberry is really a sweet fruit, well maybe not. Actually many raspberries I've eaten (and I have eaten my fair share) are generally a little sour. The thing is most raspberry fillings are really sweet because the often over compensate the sour taste with extra sugar. Ghirardelli did this with their filling as well, but that's ok, because the slight bitter taste from the dark chocolate balanced out the extra sugar in the filling quite well. Igor http://www.bewarethecheese.com/igor.htm Now don't get all upset at me people, I mean really, I know that some of you don't think that cakes should be reviewed on a site called Candy Critic. Well to you I say, go start your own site and tell me that you could resist a cake filled with chocolate that not only had monkeys on the package but was also shaped like one. I should mention that I think monkeys are really cool. Mackinac Fudge http://www.bewarethecheese.com/makinacfudge.htm I've actually been waiting to write this review for a long time now. See I've been waiting for the great excuse to write a fudge review for a while because to be honest I couldn't really decide what kind of fudge to write about. Now don't freak out or anything because I am aware that I wrote a review for Spudge (potato fudge) a little while ago, but this is different. Actually Spudge is the different thing, this is pure simple nothing strange about it fudge. The people at Mackinac Fudge Shop handed the choice of brand to me when they sent me this box. I guess the real question still remains unanswered, is it any good? Sugar Free Red Licorice http://www.bewarethecheese.com/sugarfreelicorice.htm When I first started Candy Critic I thought I'd just avoid the whole "sugar free" candy world. I figured that people that logged onto the site really didn't care about their sugar intake. But I've grown since those days... Well sort of. Let me get this straight, I do know that some people can't or don't want sugar in their diet and so I do agree that there is a need for sugar free food. Now do I think I should dedicate a whole section of this site to this? No, not really. This site is about candy and that's about it, I'll review sugar free things, but I'm going to compare them to all treats including ones with sugar. Think Gum http://www.bewarethecheese.com/thinkgum.htm So the claim here is simple, well kind of simple, the idea is that this gum can make you a little smarter. I figure I need all the help I can get, after all I'm the guy that thought doing a little web site about reviewing candy was a good idea. Chocolate Stuffed Marshmallows http://www.bewarethecheese.com/gufud.htm I'm often confronted with a little problem when I review treats. See I'm not a super human that loves every single type of food ever. I have things I just don't really like, for example I really hate fat on my meat, I can't get it down, it makes me gag, it's just pretty much a bad scene. When it comes to candy there are even a few things I don't really like as well. For example I'm not a real big fan of marshmallows, unless they're toasted. I can't tell you why, I don't have some strange story about being almost being beaten to death with one or anything, and I just don't like them. Make your own Gummy Pizza http://www.bewarethecheese.com/gummiepizza.htm Talk about fun, it was like making dinner, and isn't making dinner the most fun in the world?.. Well it wasn't that bad, because I didn't have to do any dishes or actually turn on a stove or anything. In fact this was really fun, kind of messy but in a good way. Hubba Bubba Duo "Banana Chocolate" http://www.bewarethecheese.com/hubbabananachocolate.htm My archenemy, banana flavoured bubble gum. Banana flavoured gum from the 1980s is the whole reason I don't like banana flavoured treats. So why am I reviewing this, why would I eat what could be the worst treat, the treat that wakes me up at night, why would I do it? Well that's simple, I forgive you banana-flavoured bubble gum. I'm a big enough man that I'm willing to try it again. I figure with a little chocolate it could be great, after all I love chocolate chips in my banana bread, so this should all be good. Melk Noten http://www.bewarethecheese.com/melknoten.htm I may have to make this official with the review. The best nut to mix with chocolate is officially Hazel nut. The debate is over; I don't think it has to be discussed any more. Take a look at the best thing you could imagine ever putting on toast Nuttella. Hazelnut spread, it's perfect in every way. I may just start a global campaign to make Hazelnut the official nut of chocolate lovers. Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cream Sandwich Cookies http://www.bewarethecheese.com/emilyscookies.htm I'm starting to think that maybe I should start a new web page called cookie critic. That would be fun, although I don’t' know if I could handle reviewing cookies and candy, I mean I already have enough trouble keeping myself slim. Christmas Balls http://www.bewarethecheese.com/christmasballls.htm As a treat I have to be honest and say that there's nothing really that creative about these at all. That not to say that they're bad in any way. I mean chocolate filled caramel balls are generally pretty tasty and these are no exception. The problem is that they're not really that exceptional. The chocolate is ok and the caramel is fine, but if you're going to go for simple the ingredients better be great. Chocolate covered pretzel "with peanuts" http://www.bewarethecheese.com/chocolatecoveredpretzelwithnuts.htm It's like a three-tiered snack. You start with a pretzel, a fun snack on it's own, then you add chocolate, even better and also a fine snack on it's own. Finally you add peanuts, it's a great combination, and a fine snack on it's own. I'm thinking the idea behind this involved three people in a room enjoying three different snacks and some kind of collision happened. But I guess that would be ripping off the classic "You got peanut butter in my chocolate. You got chocolate in my peanut butter." Either way this snack is great. Tukish Delight http://www.bewarethecheese.com/turkisdelight.htm Man if this is how the Turks enjoy treats then that seems like a country of good times. Now this isn't the first time I've ever eaten Turkish Delight. The first time I tried it I was in Istanbul lost on a bus with my mother. We wanted to go to the Blue Mosque (which is completely strange because it seemed a little more white than blue), but we had boarded a bus going the wrong direction and couldn't speak a word of Turkish. A nice lady on the bus that spoke English told us that we where going the wrong way and she told us that she'd take us there. On our way she decided to show us a candy store that had been open since before Jesus was born. There I tried some Turkish Delight that would blow your socks off. Snack Shortcake http://www.bewarethecheese.com/snackshortcake.htm Hey, I like snacks, and hey, I like shortcake. Wow, you couldn't have thought up a better name ever! Honestly I'm not sure if I'm being sarcastic or not either, it is kind of clever in an obvious way. I'm always a little off when I review this type of treat, I'm sure I'll get flooded with e-mails about how this really isn't a candy it's a cookie, and honestly I might have to agree, but this is my site and I wanted to eat one of these. After all I like snacks and shortcake and you can't deny a candy critic what he loves. Not to mention I did buy it amongst other bars and I could always say I was mislead. Dots http://www.bewarethecheese.com/dots.htm Some of you may be reading this and saying, finally a Dots review, others don't have a clue what Dots are, me I'm exactly in-between. I seem to remember having seen them around, but I never really stopped to look at them. This was an official Candy Critic overlook. I can't really tell you why either, it could be the package, or the fact that I'm basically expecting Jujubes. Either way this Halloween was the turning point. These little treats came in one of those assorted candy packs and I figured I had no excuse but to give them a try.
