I feel like this candy is not really very clear to anyone who can’t read the package. I did my best using some translation tools, but there are still parts I don’t understand. The parts I was able to figure out is there are three different flavours of bubble gum, lemon, strawberry and apple. Each flavour represents a little fruit character who, according to the comic on the back, go to visit some other character (who apparently is a grape themed character) and somehow things get weird. After this it’s not really clear. The part I don’t understand is why have a grape character all over the package if the candy itself has nothing to do with grape.
Speaking of the candy, this is probably the least interesting looking gum I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s particularly boring when you compare it to the flashy package. What you might not be able to tell from looking at the package is that these are in fact not sticks of gum, but instead clumps of smaller strips... sort of. It appears that they’re trying to make strips of gum, but unfortunately they’re so fused together that they are in fact sticks. I tried to break them apart but they broke apart in to small chunks instead of strips.
That’s also the problem with the texture of this gum at first. The first few chews feel like you’re chewing on a slightly gritty paste more than a piece of gum. After a while it eventual turns into a more rubbery gum consistency, but at first it’s a little too soft. The flavours aren’t bad, although they’re kind of subtle. The lemon could have used a little bit more sour, and the strawberry could have just used more flavour all around. The apple was really weak as well, but since I’m not a big fan of fake apple flavours I didn’t mind at all. It’s also worth mentioning that the flavours only lasted about 2 minutes.
I’m very confused about the theme of gum. My first thought when I saw the grape secondary character was that maybe this gum changed flavour. Maybe you started with the lemon, strawberry and apple, then eventually it turned into grape. That would work with the strange story on the back, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem like they managed to pull if off.
