Eclipse Mints "Peppermint"

Wrigley's

I don’t review many breath mints on this site, and that’s mostly because it’s hard to make a breath mint different. There are a few unique breath mints out there, but for the most part many of them are very similar. It’s even made me wonder if I should review breath mints on this site at all. I made this site to document the fun adventure and whimsy that come out of the candy world, but honestly I rarely find anything unique to talk about when it comes to breath mints. What kind of difference can you really have, staying power, flavour of mint?

This particular mint is a prime example of this very problem. It’s not that it’s a bad mint by any stretch of the imagination. The minty flavour is very pleasant and the texture is nice and hard. My mouth feels very cool and if there was anyone around me, I imagine that they would be very comfortable with me talking in their general direction (except people like Allison who hate the smell of mint). The thing is, there’s nothing really interesting about this mint that would make me want to buy only this brand.

I feel like I need to dig a little deeper into this category of candy, seek out breath mints form different parts of the world as well as from different kinds of manufacturers. This mint is made by a very large corporation, so I imagine they wouldn’t want to get too experimental, but maybe there are companies out there doing interesting things with breath mints. Maybe there’s a company or culture somewhere making a truly different way to freshen your breath.

For now I simply have a cool mint to suck on, and fresh breath that my dentist probably approves of.
