When I think of Drumsticks (not the musical kind or the kind from a chicken), I think ice cream. The second thought I have is “cone”. It’s not always true, but often when a candy company tries to expand into another direction, they often forget what makes their treat great. In other words they focus on the parts of their treat that may not be the best. In this case it’s the ice cream treat that’s eliminated the ice cream and focused on the chocolate.
On the package they describe the chocolate as “decadent milk chocolatey nuggets”. The chocolate is okay, but it’s not amazing and it’s far from decadent. I don’t know if they use the same chocolate that they use with their ice cream for this treat, but it just doesn’t work as well. This means that either they’re using a different chocolate, or this chocolate needs a creamy boost like ice cream to work.
The part that was good was the cone. While the chocolate does overpower the flavour of the cone a bit, when you nibble on the end and get more cone than chocolate it’s pretty tasty. Honestly I would have much preferred having more cone and less chocolate. You get it a bit more cone on the last bite, but the first bite is way too much chocolate.
What this tells me is that although many (myself included) might say that the best part of a Drumstick ice cream is the last bite of chocolate filled cone. You really need the rest of the ice cream to make that bite special, and the creaminess of the ice cream might help too.
