Oatmeal Creme Pie "Double Decker"

Little Debbie

I’m having a hard time defining this baked treat. The package says that it’s a pie, the texture is kind of cake like, but it looks like a cookie. Of those three things, I feel like this is actually least like a pie. I know some of you might argue that it’s a whoopie pie, but I also argue that those are not pies either. This leaves me with a cake or a cookie. I’m going to lean more towards cookie than cake, only because it’s not very light or airy and soft cookies are a thing. So what you have here is a stack of three cookies filled with cream.

The cream is another mystery to me. I think it might be closer to an icing, and some might even say that it’s almost a marshmallow consistency. I can tell you that it is very dense, it’s so dense that it’s almost the same texture as the soft cookie. The centre bit of this baked treat had almost no difference in texture between the cookie and the cream. I’m not complaining since I like really soft cookies, chewy cakes and thick icing/creams.

The flavour was completely dominated by the cookie. There was a cinnamon oatmeal flavour that was there from the first to the last bite. It might have been nice if the cream was a little more than just sweet and creamy texture, but the cookie flavour was pleasant enough that I can’t really complain. It’s not the best cookie or cream I’ve ever eaten, but it’s better than average.

I should note that I kind of bought this cookie in error. I meant to get a regular Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pie, but I grabbed this double version instead. I’m not sure if this is better or worse than the classic Oatmeal Creme Pie. I enjoyed this enough to be even more interested in eventually trying the classic version, and I’m hoping it’s a little better. Not that this was bad, but the centre bit was pretty extreme and I feel like it might work better as just a single-decker.
