Doritos "Taco"

Frito-Lay

I’m going to have a hard time reviewing these Doritos. The problem is that at first taste, these taste very similar to regular nacho cheese Doritos. Maybe if I had a bag of nacho cheese Doritos to compare I might be able to find a difference, but sitting here right now they seem pretty similar. It’s only after a few chips that I start to taste a subtle difference, some hint of some extra spices. I don’t know if I’d call the flavour, even the subtle spice flavour taco, but maybe it’s a little different than the nacho cheese Doritos.

The problem with writing this review is that I kind of enjoyed eating these Doritos. The cheese flavour was very similar to the nacho cheese Doritos, but maybe a little more subtle. I actually like the slightly subtle flavour as it allows you to enjoy the corn chip a little more. So I liked these Doritos, but I feel like it failed at the goal, being taco flavoured. If I was to judge the flavour entirely on the idea that it’s supposed to taste like tacos, it’s almost a complete failure. So I’m not entirely sure how I should rank these flavour wise.

The thing about the failure of these Doritos is that it would be very easy to fix. First and foremost you have to up the taco flavour, and that could simply mean increasing the strength of that subtle after taste. I also read the ingredients and I don’t think I saw cumin, a really important ingredient in tacos. The problem with making this adjustment is you run the risk ruining the parts of these Doritos that I really like. I guess the question is, do I want a yummy Dorito or a Dorito that delivers on it’s promise to taste like tacos.
