Whenever I see these Peanut Butter Logs at my local bulk food store, I feel like I should be pouring milk over them. There’s something about them that makes me think of breakfast, rather than a tasty treat. I think they resemble Shredded Wheat, and they remind me of pouring milk over a giant hay bail in my cereal bowl. They just look like cereal.
The best way to describe these Peanut Butter Logs is that they're very similar to a Crispy Crunch bar or in some ways Butterfinger. I'd say probably more like a Crispy Crunch because have a really strong peanut flavour, hence the name the name I’m sure. The strange thing is although I tasted peanuts, I didn't actually bite into a singly peanut while eating this log. The texture isn't peanut like at all, and with the strong peanut flavour with no peanut texture, it throws my texture senses into a tizzy.
The real problem I have with this snack isn't the peanut flavour though; in fact, I really like it a lot. What I can't understand is the coconut on the outside of these logs. I'm not a big fan of coconut as it is, so I'm sure that plays a roll in my opinion, but I really don't think coconut works with this treat. I don't think coconut works even if you like coconut, it just seems to really detract from the tasty nutty flavour, and detraction in flavour can ruin a treat.
I'm not sure how they could change it either and still keep it original. I mean if you cover it in chocolate then you just have a Crispy Crunch or Butterfinger, but for the life of me I can't figure out what else you could cover this with and still make it work. I guess that's a challenge to any and all candy companies out there.
