I'm not really sure what I expected from this bar. With the name “Cracker Jack” I guess I was expecting something with caramel, popcorn, and peanuts. The thing that threw me off is that the package only shows peanuts. So, I figured that Sri Lanka, the place where I got this bar, might have a different interpretation of what Cracker Jacks are. That or a misunderstanding of what Cracker Jacks are, since I'm not 100% sure where Cracker Jacks come from.
Upon my first bite I knew that I wasn't getting a Cracker Jack treat similar to what I was used to in North America. There's no caramel, no popcorn, just peanuts. So this "Cracker Jack" bar is just a peanut chocolate bar, I'm not really sure what's going on.
If I'm to forget that I've been promised a Cracker Jack bar and just look at this bar objectively, it's not a fantastic bar. The peanuts are fine, but the chocolate isn't anything spectacular. I've had worse chocolate, but with such a simple bar you need excellent quality ingredients particularly when you’re dealing with chocolate. Since there isn't anything to hide the flavours and textures, any flaw in the quality of the ingredients is enhanced. This bar however isn't a complete failure, there is one unique thing about this bar that really works, and that's the way the peanuts are delivered. Rather than just mixing the peanuts into the chocolate, they filled each square with peanuts like the caramel in a Caramilk bar. It works really well, and it gives you a nice mouthful of peanuts with each bite.
