This might seem like a fairly standard flavour of lollipop, but I think it probably could use some context. As far as I know, Chupa Chups was one of the first candy companies to make unique flavours of lollipops on a large scale. There may have been other smaller local companies making interesting flavours of lollipops, but Chupa Chups was the company that really took these “unique” flavours and made them mainstream. Today we see all kinds of flavours available in lollipop form, but when I was a little kid most lollipop companies made simple fruit flavoured lollipops and that was about it.
The idea of adding cream to a lollipop is kind of brilliant. It seems like an easy flavour to make, I assume it involves some vanilla and something to mellow out the tart fruit flavours. The key however is making the cream flavour strong enough while not hiding the fruit flavour as well. This lollipop does that pretty well. I would say that it seems to lean a little heavier on the cream flavour, but the strawberry is most certainly there. This flavour combination is particularly good for a lollipop because the concept of blending strawberries and cream together in real life isn’t far fetched at all. In other words, people are used to eating strawberries in cream, so eating a candy with the same theme isn’t weird.
Objectively today I feel like this lollipop might not be that unique anymore. The thing you have to remember is that Chupa Chups was one of those companies that pushed the boundaries in candy making, and may be somewhat responsible for the fact that this flavour isn’t unique today. The good news is that even though this is an early version of the flavour combination in lollipop form, it still tastes pretty good.
