Of all of the flavours of Chupa Chups that I’ve ever tasted, this orange flavour is probably the most generic. I was first introduced to Chupa Chups many years ago and one of the great features of this lollipop brand was the unique flavours. Things like chocolate vanilla and strawberries and cream are far more interesting than orange. The thing is, this is a really good orange lollipop.
I can’t say that it’s anything mind blowing, the orange flavour leans towards that fake orange flavour that most candies and powdered drinks taste like. It’s not particularly sweet or sour, and it doesn’t have a unique texture or anything. It’s just an orange lollipop, but it’s totally hitting the spot for me right now. It’s almost like tasting a decent quality piece of milk chocolate. There’s nothing special about it, but you have to admire the candy maker for taking such a simple concept and making it good.
I’ll be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever tasted any other generic flavour of Chupa Chups lollipops before. Whenever I see them at a store I’m always tempted by the fancy and fun flavours, in particular the chocolate vanilla, but maybe I should consider trying a few other not so fancy flavours in the future. If they can make a simple orange lollipop this nice, maybe if they make other simple flavours they might be really satisfying too.
As I said before, you’re not going to be blown away if you try this lollipop, but if you’re looking for a good quality simple lollipop you’re not going to be disappointed. This is truly a great point to measure all future lollipops that I review. I can simply say, is it better or worse than an orange flavoured Chupa Chups lollipop. If it’s better than it’s truly an achievement, if it’s worse then you know there’s room for improvement.
