On paper this is a slightly unique bar that could work. In reality this is a slightly unique bar that only kind of works. Often in these reviews I suggest improvements that could make the treat better, sometimes it’s as easy as higher quality ingredients, other times it’s a lot more complicated. With this bar I’m not sure if you could improve it that much, in some ways I feel like the basic design is a little flawed.
The only part of this treat that I think you could improve is the quality of the chocolate. It’s probably the most common complaint I have about treats on this site, quality of chocolate matters, and it’s very rare that a candy bar with cheap chocolate actually works. While I think a nice layer of high quality milk (or dark) chocolate could improve this bar a bit, there is a basic design to this bar that makes it feel weird.
Feel is the key word, as this flaw has a lot to do with the texture. The flaw lies in the “wafer roll”. The problem is that this very delicate and very brittle wafer roll clashes with the texture of the peanuts. Maybe you could change the wafer roll and make it stronger, but I’m not sure that texture would work either. Right now the texture of the wafer roll is very strange, and when adding a hearty crunchy peanut it just doesn’t compare. I can’t think of anything that you could replace this roll with without just turning it into a different candy bar.
That’s the problem, the thing that makes this bar unique is the thing I don’t really like (texture wise). The caramel outside the bar is fantastic. The peanuts are well distributed and taste great. A slightly better chocolate would be nice, but it’s not horrible either. It’s just that weird wafer roll that’s throwing me off.
