My sister was a huge Caramilk fan. When we were kids I would go for some penny candy, or an Oh Henry bar, and she would almost always go for the Caramilk. As a kid I always thought of the Caramilk bar as boring compared to the choices I had for penny candy. Also, because my sister was older than me, I though of it as a big kid’s chocolate bar. So, I can't say that I ever had a phase in my life when the Caramilk was my go to bar. That's probably why it's taken me so many years to write this review.
The bar itself is very good. The chocolate is smooth and creamy, and it melts perfectly in your mouth. The real star of this bar is the caramel, and it's the standard to which I hold up many caramels. It's a liquid caramel that when room temperature or slightly warmer, oozes perfectly causing the occasional string of caramel to drip on your chin. There are few other liquid caramels that are better than the stuff found in the center of a Caramilk, and even fewer in a mass-produced chocolate bar.
I really couldn't recommend the Caramilk bar enough, but strangely it's never been one of my favourite chocolate bars. I'm sure it's my own problem and has nothing to do with the bar itself. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that I'm fairly immature, and still consider myself a little kid.
