Batook Cardamom Chewing Gum

Batook

I have an interesting opinion on cardamom. I really like it when I like it and really hate it when I don’t. Fortunately it’s very easy for me to explain when I like it and when I don’t. Cardamom works really well in teas and even desserts as long as it has something else to back it up. Actually, I really like cardamom when it’s not the star of the show. If it’s part of a blend or in the background it works really well. It’s a spice (I assume) that has to be used sparingly or with other stronger flavours. It’s a great accent. On its own however, cardamom is pretty bad.

On it’s own cardamom tastes a little bit like soap. Maybe not as bad as coriander tastes like soap (at least for people like me and several others). This gum is the perfect example of cardamom that I don’t really like. Let me get this straight, if you love cardamom on its own you’ll love this gum. It tastes pretty close to how it tastes when you bite right into a cardamom pod. I unfortunately have experienced this several times and I’ve never really been happy when it’s happened.

So I guess this gum delivers exactly what is promised, and I probably should have expected that. I’ll be honest, I was expecting it and I only got this gum because it was a unique flavour and thought it would make for a good review. I guess I was hoping that it might taste more like a tea with a slight cardamom flavour, but I wasn’t hopeful on that. So it’s not going to get a high score in taste and texture, but I will say it’s unique and if you like cardamom more than me than you should probably ignore the taste score.
