Alfie "Cookies & Cream"

Glico

I would probably say that cookies and cream is my favourite way to enjoy white chocolate. I have the belief that when they make cookies and cream bars, they add a little more creamy flavour. I’m not sure if that’s actually true of if it’s the contrast you get with the chocolate cookie bits. It could also be in my imagination, which is a legitimate way to make things taste better. There’s a great deal of science around marketing and even the words used on candy packages to make a candy taste a certain way. While this bar is better than many white chocolate bars I’ve eaten in my life, it might be one of the worst cookies and cream bar I’ve ever had.

The main problems with this bar are a thing that I’ve noticed before with Alfie bars. The chocolate is a little strange, both in texture and flavour. I’ve described Alfie bars in the past as having a waxy flavour and texture. The waxy flavour is so strong that it actually kills the flavour of the chocolate, or any other flavours Glico adds to the Alfie bar. The worst part however is the texture. It feels like you’re eating a candle, then all of a sudden your mouth is covered with a strange film that not only makes your mouth feel weird, but seems to cut off your taste buds.

The one thing about Alfie bars that does seem to work is the cookie bits. They’re always well distributed and nice and crunchy. I could have used a little more chocolate cookie flavour with these, but they weren’t too bad. The problem is decent cookie bits do not make for a great candy bar. When you’re making a bar that’s simple, like creamy white chocolate and cookie bits, every single element has to be great. Unfortunately that’s just not the case with this bar.
