Before you read this review, you should know that I don’t like or drink coffee. I say this because I believe your opinion of this bar relates greatly to how much you like coffee. Tiramisu can be a very coffee forward tasting dessert, and this bar follows suit, sort of. While I would say that this bar has a coffee flavour, I would call it a subtle coffee flavour. The best candy I can compare this bar to flavour wise is the Coffee Crisp bar. Both of these bars have an unmistakable coffee flavour, but it’s still subtle. The creamy flavour of the chocolate in this case really cut the bitter coffee flavour.
If you’re a real coffee lover, particularly if you love espresso or other really strong flavoured coffees, you might be a little disappointed with this bar. There is certainly none of the coffee bite you get with stronger coffees. The sweet of the sugar and creaminess of the chocolate cut the coffee flavour to just a nice hint of coffee. As I said before, I don’t really like coffee, so I found the flavour to be a nice accent instead of an over powering beast. Having said that, I’d probably prefer to just get a different flavour of Aero Truffle bar if give the choice.
The other disappointing thing about this bar has been a common theme among candy bars that are supposed to represent desserts, and particularly with these dessert themed Aero bars. While there was a real coffee feeling to this bar, I don’t think I would call this bar Tiramisu at all. I’d say it’s more of a creamy coffee bar. All of the other elements of a tiramisu are pretty much nonexistent. I’m not sure you could represent a tiramisu well in a chocolate bar form at all, and this bar only proves that argument.
It’s a nice enough bar, but I don’t think it works as a dessert replacement. The coffee flavour is smooth and subtle, but if that’s not what you look for in your coffee, you might be disappointed.
