Abba-Zaba "Sour Apple"

Annabelle's

I just don't get it. Why would anybody think that sour apple and peanut butter would go together? When I first tried an Abba-Zaba, I was pleasantly surprised at how well a taffy and peanut butter flavours and textures could mix together. The original Abba-Zaba got great marks for originality, and better yet it didn't taste too bad either. But this variation does not make any sense to me at all.

I know that some people do enjoy spreading a little peanut butter on fresh apples. If you haven't heard of this before, maybe it’s a local thing that only my mother did. It shouldn’t be surprising thought since apples are a pretty versatile fruit. Apples work with many other savoury combinations including apples and cheddar cheese. While I know these are two common combinations, neither apples and peanut butter nor apples and cheese really do it for me personally. Maybe if this is your thing you might have a difference of opinion about this treat.

There is however one other problem with this bar and that’s because the fake sour apple flavour is just gross. I’ve never been a fan of fake apple flavour, even at the best of times. When you mix it with peanut butter it just seems even worse to me.

Even the apple taffy was hard to get down, mixed with peanut butter isn't helping at all. I've said it in past reviews - fake apple is just gross. I have yet to taste a fake apple flavour that I really like. Some I can tolerate more than others, but for the most part it just generally doesn't work. Adding peanut butter to the equation doesn’t help at all.
