Mr. Viet "Dark Chocolate Mango & Coconut"

Mr. Viet

This chocolate bar is fine, but it’s not amazing. It has the potential to be amazing because it has a creative theme that also makes sense. Coconut and mango is a classic tropical flavour combination. In many tropical countries they are drinks, desserts and even a few meals that use this flavour combination successfully. Chocolate also works well with both coconut and mango, so it feels like all three together should be no problem. While coconut is the most common flavour to work with chocolate, I’ve had several pieces of mango both dried and fresh covered in chocolate and it’s delicious.

The problem with this bar is one that comes up over and over again in the candy world and that’s ratio of ingredients and flavours. In order for this bar to work, no one component of this bar should outshine another. In the case of this bar the chocolate overpowers everything. You can taste the mango a little bit, but it’s more of an aftertaste. The coconut flavour on the other hand is totally lost. The only thing the coconut provides is a slightly chewy texture.

The good news is that the chocolate is pretty good, so it’s not a total loss. My problem is that I was expecting something new and interesting with the coconut and mango pieces (there’s real coconut and mango on the bottom of this bar), but I really didn’t taste it at all. I would imagine that adding more of the fruit wouldn’t be that hard, and it would make this bar really unique and I assume pretty tasty.
