This chocolate will appeal to those of a very specific taste. First and foremost you have to like the combination of chocolate and mint, if you’re not down with that you might as well stop reading this review. Next, you have to enjoy treats that are sweet, but not too sweet. This chocolate almost tasted like a no sugar added chocolate treat to me, except it didn’t have that metallic aftertaste that many no sugar added sweet treats have. I could be wrong, but my assumption is that while this does contain sugar, it’s not as much sugar as you normally find in chocolates like these.
While I’m on the subject of less flavour, in general the flavour of this chocolate is very subtle. The bright great top is pretty bold, but it’s really the only bold thing about this treat at all. It’s not that this is a real problem, you just have to know going in that you’re not going to be blown away by either the chocolate or mint flavour. The good thing is that both of these flavours do balance really well. I’ve had chocolate mint treats where either the chocolate or the mint take over everything, this is not the case as both are very subtle flavours.
The real surprise of this chocolate is the centre, below that bright mint topping. Inside is some kind of chocolate mouse like filling, filled with what I assume are minty crunchy pieces. It was a nice surprise, and the crunchy bits added a nice little additional texture to the treat. I tend to like my treats a little more bold in flavour, but I totally understand what they’re doing here. It’s a well balanced chocolate with a smooth texture, and some fun crunchy bits to give it a little texture.
